Faced with the growing challenges associated with water management, Saint-Brieuc Armor Agglomération is choosing innovation. The agglomeration has entrusted Purecontrol, a Breton company specializing in process optimization using artificial intelligence, with the mission of deploying a hypervision and real-time management solution to optimize its water and sanitation infrastructures. With an investment of €209,000 over three years, this project marks a major step forward in improving energy performance, limiting environmental impacts and securing services.

An approach in line with environmental objectives

Water management is a key issue for communities, especially in a context of climate change. Periods of drought, episodes of heavy rains and pressure on natural resources further complicate this mission. For Saint-Brieuc Armor Agglomération, it is:

  • Reducing energy consumption infrastructures, in particular those of treatment plants and, in the future, those of lifting stations.
  • Identify leaks in drinking water distribution networks
  • Limiting the intrusion of parasitic water in wastewater collection networks
  • Prevent and reduce wastewater overflows into the natural environment, coming from lifting stations and buffer basins, which are particularly in demand during rainy episodes.
  • Respect discharge standards by optimizing the control of the phosphate removal process and by influencing the use of chemical treatment products.

An innovation Made in Brittany at the service of the territory

A Breton company specializing in process regulation and artificial intelligence, Purecontrol has already deployed its technology on more than 600 sites in France. Thanks to its ability to analyze data in real time and automatically activate optimization levers, the solution allows significant energy savings.

The Purecontrol management and hypervision solution is based on a real-time analysis of data from water and sanitation structures. By integrating specific modules for each need, it allows:

  • To continuously adapt equipment settings to consume less energy and improve the quality of discharges into the natural environment
  • To anticipate variations in flow according to weather conditions
  • To identify and prioritize actions to be taken to limit the intrusion of parasitic water into wastewater collection networks
  • To improve the detection of leaks in drinking water distribution networks
The hypervision solution deployed as part of this project is based on the expertise of two other Breton companies. In partnership with RNPVision, specialized in advanced network mapping, and RPQeau, expert in the diagnosis and fight against parasitic water in wastewater collection networks, this solution ensures a global and integrated vision of the infrastructures of Saint-Brieuc Armor Agglomération.

The integration of the expertise of RNPVision and RPQeau into our hypervision solution is a real added value. These local partnerships reinforce the effectiveness and scope of Purecontrol tools, making it possible to offer a global tool, from diagnosis to action, which makes it possible to respond concretely to the complex challenges of communities.” - Loïc Croissant, Innovation Director at Purecontrol

A concrete impact for residents

Enrolled in the Territorial Climate-Air-Energy Plan (PCAET) of Saint-Brieuc Armor Agglomération, this project contributes directly to the region's environmental ambitions, with a goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 40% and energy consumption by 20% by 2030.

By modernising its infrastructures, the agglomeration is strengthening the quality of public services while maintaining biodiversity and anticipating the effects of climate events. By securing equipment and optimizing consumption, it meets the expectations of citizens, while strengthening the resilience of its territory in the face of environmental challenges.

The main treatment plant in the territory (140,000 equivalent inhabitants, located in Légué) was the first beneficiary of this new technology, with already around 14% of optimization of operating costs (energy) observed during the first months of operation.

Saint-Brieuc Armor Agglomération has an ambitious and structuring water and sanitation policy for the future of our inhabitants: investments in networks, a program to modernize its treatment plants, construction of a new drinking water production plant in order to meet the needs and requirements of the next 50 years... This partnership with the solution proposed by PURECONTROL makes it possible to meet this ambition and to optimize the management of the Agglomération's equipment.” - Ronan KERDRAON, President of Saint-Brieuc Armor Agglomération.
